Terms of Service

Scout is operated by Get Underway Syndicate ("G.U.S.", "we"), based in Hawaii, USA. By using Scout — the website, the app, and the services behind them — you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Scout.

1 · What Scout is

Scout is a market-information service for used sailboats. We collect publicly advertised listings, retain the market's history (asking prices, price changes, time on market), link boats to a reference database of designs, and produce estimates and reports — including the "Z3stimate", an estimated value with its reasoning shown.

2 · Estimates are information, not advice

Every number Scout produces is informational only. A Z3stimate, a gear valuation, a comparable set or any other figure is an estimate built from imperfect public data. It is not an appraisal, a survey, an offer, a guarantee of value or condition, or financial, legal or professional advice, and it must not be relied on for lending, insurance or tax purposes. Boats are bought on inspection and survey — verify everything independently before you spend money. We are not a party to any purchase or sale you make.

3 · Listings belong to their sources

Listing information shown in Scout was published by sellers and brokers on their own sites. It can be wrong, outdated, or withdrawn at any time; the boat, its price and its availability are theirs, not ours. Links take you to the source — the transaction happens there, between you and them.

4 · Scout is not your broker

Using the app creates no agency, brokerage or fiduciary relationship. If we ever represent you in a purchase, that happens only under a separate written agreement signed by both sides — never by using the website. We hold no listings and take no money from sellers.

5 · Your account

You can browse without an account. Signing in (Google sign-in with a verified email, or a beta username) creates an account you are responsible for. We store the minimum needed to run the service — see the privacy policy. One account per person; you must be 16 or older.

6 · Free tier, subscriptions and payment

The free tier gives you the real product, limited by time rather than by crippled features. Paid subscriptions — when offered — unlock the full reports and are billed in advance on a recurring basis. You can cancel any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and payments already made are not refunded unless the law where you live says otherwise. Prices may change with notice before your next renewal. Payment is handled by a payment processor; your card details never touch our servers. Trial and gift keys are courtesy access and can end or change during the beta.

7 · Beta honesty

Scout is an early-stage service, shipped daily. Features may change, break or disappear; data coverage is growing and incomplete. We'll always tell you what a number is based on — that's the product — but we can't promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

8 · Fair use

Don't scrape, bulk-export or resell Scout's data or estimates; don't probe, overload or reverse-engineer the service; don't use Scout for anything unlawful. API/MCP access is metered per key and governed by the same rule: personal use in, resale out. We may rate-limit or suspend accounts that abuse the service or these terms.

9 · What's ours, what's yours

The Scout software, the compiled market-history database, the design reference base, the estimates and their write-ups are ours. Listing content remains its publishers'. Anything you contribute (feedback, corrections, reported sold prices) you must have the right to share, and you give us a perpetual, royalty-free licence to use it to run and improve the service — that is how the market's memory gets better for everyone.

10 · Liability

Scout is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is capped at the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.

11 · Ending things

You can stop using Scout and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Sections that by their nature survive (2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 12) survive.

12 · The paperwork

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, USA, and disputes belong to the courts there — except where your local consumer law says otherwise. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll say so on the site with a new version number and date; continuing to use Scout after that means you accept the change.
