Tigé

Tigé's founding story is a trim plate. Charlie Pigeon started the company in 1991 and had his first hull, the 2000 SLM, on the water by 1992 — WaterSki Magazine named it Rookie of the Year — but the idea that built the Abilene, Texas yard arrived in 1995: TAPS, the Tigé Adjustable Performance System, a plate that changes the hull's attitude from the helm and with it the shape of the water behind the boat. Everyone else was still solving wakes with weight; Tigé was steering the running surface. The patented Convex V hull and TAPS2 followed in 2003, TAPS 3T runs the current fleet, and the industry's surf-tab arms race of the 2010s spent a decade arriving where Pigeon's plate started. The company is still his, which in a segment of conglomerate badges is its own statement.

The complaint file is specific and worth reading. The owner threads and brand reviews converge on soft goods and wiring rather than structure: upholstery that wants replacing inside ten years, factory stereo gremlins traced to bad RCA cables, touchscreens that needed swapping, and one documented warranty saga of a Z3 back four times for the same fuel pump. The defence, from the same owners, is that the factory answers — dealer support is a reason people rebuy the brand. Both are true, and together they write the survey: the hull has earned trust, so spend your inspection hour on the interior, the electronics and the service history instead. Buy a Tigé for wave engineering that predates the fashion, resale that holds, and a factory that still belongs to its founder; budget honestly for vinyl and screens as the boats age. The rest of the tow fleet is mustered on the wake and ski boats under $100k.
