Lagoon is what happened when a builder of America's Cup and ocean racing hulls — Jeanneau Techniques Avancées, with VPLP drawing the lines — decided in 1984 that the technology should go cruising. Forty years later the Bordeaux yard is the largest builder of cruising catamarans on earth, and its stamp on the anchorages of the world is so complete that "a Lagoon" is what non-sailors picture when they hear the word catamaran. No yard has put more families on two hulls, and no used-cat market runs deeper than the one Lagoon left in its wake.

Two boats carry the story. The Lagoon 380 — the most successful cruising cat ever built — was the entry ticket for a generation; our shelf prices it live between $167,400 and $227,500, with a 2006 S2 with Hellomulti at $178,200. Its heir, the Lagoon 42, is the best-selling catamaran in the world today; we track thirty-nine askings averaging $475,800, anchored by a 2022 at Marina del Rey asking $549,000. Above them the range climbs through the 46 to the 50 and beyond, into territory where the charter fleets do most of the buying.

The honest notes hold for the whole family: most Lagoons worked for a living, so biography beats condition in every negotiation — a private-owner boat earns its premium. The survey scripts are the best documented in the multihull world, bulkhead tabbing and saildrive history above all, and parts support is as good as production boats get.
