Pogo Structures

Pogo Structures is what happens when a Mini-Transat sailor builds the yard he wished existed. Christian Bouroullec founded it in 1987 and moved it to Combrit, Brittany in 1990; in 1995 came the Pogo 6.50 (Pierre Rolland design), and in 1999 Bouroullec himself won the Mini-Transat series division aboard one of his own boats — the yard's credentials were earned mid-ocean, single-handed. The Pogo 2 (2003, the first Finot-Conq Pogo) took the top three places in its first Transat 6.50. Every cruising Pogo since is that race boat, domesticated: wide, light, chined hulls that plane downwind, built in vacuum infusion by people who cross oceans alone.

The range on our shelf spans the whole idea. The 2006 Pogo 40 in Marseille ($124,200) is the undomesticated original — a first-generation Pogo 40S, from the year the yard helped found the Class40 itself (eleven Class40s started the 2006 Route du Rhum; Pogos finished first and second). The 2002 Pogo 8.50 ($69,660) is the Rolland-drawn crossover that proved a Mini's manners could carry a cruising interior. The 2019 Pogo 36 "Expresso" in Marina del Rey ($348,500) is the modern article — the yard calls it the archetype of its cruising line, infusion-built and directly descended from the racing range — and the 2012 Pogo 12.50 "Hermes" in Trinidad ($235,000) is the same DNA at passage-making size.

The honest notes: Pogos are built to be sailed hard and simple — expect outboard-or-saildrive minimalism, tiller steering on the smaller boats, and interiors a traditionalist will call spartan (the weight lives in the laminate, not the joinery). And mind the family tree: the cruising Pogos are fast cruisers, not racers — the racing blood runs purest in the 40 and the Minis, and the racing article keeps that distinction honest.
